Clichés about the French

Clichés about the French as seen by our international ALIP students!

At ALIP, learning the French language and culture also means deconstructing preconceived ideas! That’s why our international students worked on the most widespread clichés about the French.

From the famous beret with a baguette under the arm to endless meals over a glass of wine, these stereotypes were analyzed, debated and illustrated in creative, funny and sometimes surprising productions.

➡️ Why this work?

To stimulate their cultural curiosity and critical thinking.
To understand where these preconceived ideas come from.
To better grasp the nuances of French reality, far from simplifications.

We’re happy to share with you a glimpse of their work and their thoughts on what “being French” really means through their eyes.

And what clichés about the French have you already heard? Share them with us in the comments!
